Halo from Lampung! Our team at Connector.ID, together with UNDP Indonesia, the Government of Canada, and ANGIN just finished a 2-day event aimed at empowering social enterprises with an agribusiness focus. We held workshops and seminars aimed at helping entrepreneurs be better prepared for fundraising, with the end goal of becoming investment ready. The topics covered included sustainability and scalability of businesses, and how to take a concept and effectively scale up a business in order to make it sustainable, and thus addressing SDG 2 (End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture).

Opening remarks were given by Deputy Director of UNDP Indonesia, Francine Pickup, while Valencia Dea (Principal of ANGIN) and Meredith Peng (Director of Connector.ID) also gave introductions. We had various entrepreneurial speakers such as Sabrina Mustopo from Krakakoa, who shared the story of her chocolate company which aims to empower farmers through the provision of training to produce high quality bean. Through the farmer- to-bar concept, she explained how Krakakao is able to capture more value in the process, and in turn increase the farmer's wages and create a social impact. The program also included a field trip to witness the chocolate making process in the flesh, from the cocoa plantations to the factory warehouse. Selected attendees were invited to join a field trip to PT. Varshana, a social enterprise  dedicated to serving smallholder farmers.

The second day consisted of a series of one-on-one meetings with the ANGIN and Connector.ID team who provided mentoring for micro-scale enterprises, helping them with their pitch decks and providing the know-how in approaching investors and ultimately start fundraising. Attendees not only came away with a deeper understanding of the importance of fundraising, but also opened up  their opportunities and networks.

Thanks to all the attendees who came, your enthusiasm and eagerness to learn made the event a great success. See you on Thursday Manado!
